A New Bedford Police officer sustained minor injuries after a crash on Kings Highway.

Police tell WBSM News that at around 6:25 p.m. Tuesday the officer was responding to a call in his cruiser with lights and sirens on when he approached the King's Highway intersection.

Another motorist was going through the intersection, and apparently told police that while they heard the siren they didn't see the cruiser.

The officer swerved to avoid the other vehicle and crashed into the King's Plaza sign near the McDonald's.

Police say the officer suffered minor injuries and was being taken to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation, the cruiser sustained front end damage.

The names of those involved haven't yet been released.
