New Bedford Police narcotics unit made 10 arrests Monday as part of a citywide sweep targeting narcotics use in the city.

As a result of the sweep, police made the following arrests from 1-4 p.m.

Two arrests were made as part of a sweep of the South End:

--Juan Carlos Ostorga, 42, of 27 Cleveland St., New Bedford, warrant arrest. He was arrested on Salisbury Street.

--Kyle R. Carey, 28, of 111 Lawson Ave., Acushnet, warrant arrest. He was arrested on West Rodney French Boulevard.

Four arrests were made as part of a sweep of the North End:

--Steven R. Estrela, 27, of 31 Chestnut St., Fairhaven, possession of heroin, warrant arrest. He was arrested on Collette Street with a small amount of heroin.

--Yariluz Segarra-Mendez, 34, 96 Division St. Apt. 1E, New Bedford, possession of crack cocaine, warrant arrest. She was arrested with a small amount of crack cocaine on Sawyer Street.

--Christie D. Jardin, 42, 247 Ashley Blvd. Apt. 3, New Bedford, warrant arrest. She was arrested on Ashley Boulevard and Nye Street.

--John Medeiros, 45, 57 Bridge St., Fairhaven, warrant arrest. He was arrested on Ashley Boulevard and Nye Street,

In addition to the sweep, the narcotics unit later executed a search warrant at about 10 p.m. at 174 Ashley Blvd., Apts. 1 and 2. Police found a small amount of crack cocaine, a small amount of heroin, a digital scale, packaging materials and $93.

The following arrests were made as a result of the execution of the search warrant:

--Victor Velasquez, 55, 174 Ashley Blvd. Apt. 1, New Bedford, being present where heroin is being kept.

--Ricardo Velez-Gonzalez, 30, 383 North Front St. New Bedford, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, subsequent offense, conspiracy to violate drug laws. Velez-Gonzalez was convicted of possession of heroin Aug. 2, 2011.

--Raymond J. Boudreau, 57, 174 Ashley Blvd. Apt. 1, New Bedford, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws.

--Nataly Quintana, 32, 168 Myrtle St. Apt. 2, New Bedford, being present where heroin is being kept.
