NEW BEDFORD - Just because New Bedford has signed an agreement to locate a medical marijuana dispensary on Hathaway Road doesn't mean it'll happen overnight.

Steve Angelo, Executive Director of Beacon Compassion Center, says the non-profit must now submit the agreement to the state for their license review. Angelo says he expects to hear back from the state in about a month. "In parralell with that, we'll be looking to schedule a series of educational and informational events here in the city as a part of bringing information about Beacon and sharing our information and transparently working with the public on what we're looking to do here in the city," said Angelo.

Angelo says Beacon Compassion plans to raze the current building on the site, the former Wicks and Licks location, and build a secure, 3,500 square foot facility that will address the needs of those with medical marijuana prescriptions.
