Mayor Jon Mitchell has urged everyone in the city to be prepared for the potential impact of Hurricane Sandy.  The Mayor also suggests that residents of homes along Padanaram Avenue, and low-lying areas that tradionally experience flooding along East and West Rodney French Boulevard evacuate their properites by 8 a.m. Monday.  There is no mandatory evacuation at this time.

As of 8 p.m. Sunday, Keith Middle School will open for those residents who are in need of shelter.  The Keith shelter is pet friendly.  Residents MAY bring their pets along, and should never leave them at home during an evacuation.  Also, beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, the soup kitchen at Pilgrim Church will be open to those seeking food and shelter.   It's located at 624 Purchase Street.   The city also anticipates the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier may close as early as 5 a.m. Monday.
