New Bedford Man Caught Digging In Cemetery

New Bedford Police say they caught a man digging in the Rural Cemetery on Dartmouth Street.

Someone spotted the man digging in the cemetery late Saturday afternoon, and called police. When they arrived, police found the 24 year old man chest deep into a hole in the ground. He had spent the past 12 hours digging the hole with a small garden tool and a plastic bottle.

The man told police that he had permission from the Federal Government to dig the hole, and that he owned the land. He was brought to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation.
