New Bedford Man Arrested for Driving Stolen Vehicle, Fleeing Police

NEW BEDFORD—New Bedford Police arrested Lupe Oscar Martinez, 19, of 242 Austin St. Apt. #2, New Bedford, Tuesday night after detectives observed him in a stolen vehicle, which sped off when police attempted to stop him.

After a short pursuit, he fled on foot, leaving behind the vehicle. He was apprehended in a yard on Mt. Pleasant Street.

Martinez is charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was also arrested on six outstanding warrants.

The arrest was made at 11:24 p.m.
