New Bedford Man Armed With Shotgun In Standoff With Cops

The trouble began this morning during a fight between a man and his girlfriend at Austin Court in New Bedford.   The woman called police after she said her boyfriend shoved and threatened her when she went to the apartment to pickup some of her clothes.

When police showed up at 17 Austin Court at around 8:30 a.m., they found out that 44-year-old John DeAlmeida was in the apartment with a shotgun.  A police crisis negotiator was called in after the man refused to leave the apartment.   A short time later, DeAlmeida Almeida walked out of the apartment and surrendered to police.

Inside,  cops found a Mossberg 12-guage shotgun along with Luger, Glock and Smith and Wesson handguns.   DeAlmeida was charged with assault and battery on a household member, along with several firearms violations.   He does not have a license to carry firearms.
