NEW BEDFORD — An early-evening fire Friday has left a family displaced from their South End home.

A call came in to the New Bedford Fire Department sometime before 5:45 p.m. of a fire at 52 Fern Street.

Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News the home is a one-and-a-half story wooden frame single-family structure. He says the fire was quickly brought under control, but as of 7:15 p.m. Friday, fire crews remained on scene putting out hotspots.

Gomes says one person was injured and transported to St. Luke's Hospital. He says the Red Cross has been notified, as the family has been displaced.

The fire remains under investigation.
