BOSTON - A New Bedford man has been sentenced for his role in a drug trafficking ring.

The U.S. Attorney's Office of Massachusetts says David Tejeda, 36, of New Bedford, was sentenced to serve six years in prison with three years of supervised release.

In October of 2017, Tejeda pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl.

Tejeda was one of 23 people arrested in connection to the drug ring that operated in the Taunton area and Boston.

Federal law enforcement carried out an investigation from mid-2016 through February 2017 into a heroin and fentanyl trafficking organization led by Jose Antonio Lugo-Guerrero. Lugo-Guerrero allegedly operated the organization in Fall River and Boston and sold to numerous customers, including Tejeda.

On February 14, 2017, agents arrested Tejeda and searched his New Bedford home, seizing 119 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl and heroin and 117 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl and cocaine.

Lugo-Guerrero has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
