NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford couple is arrested after police find drugs in their possession.

Members of the New Bedford Police Narcotics Division were patrolling the area of Washington and Crapo Streets just before 7 p.m. Monday when they observed suspicious activity in a vehicle in the area. Police investigated further and found that the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of drugs.

Police arrested the couple, Lydia Garcia, 46, and Valentin Ulibarri, 41, both of 236 Hemlock Street.

Garcia faces charges of possession of crack cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and possession of a Class C substance (Clonazepam). Ulibarri is charged with possession of crack cocaine and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Police say the arrests are a result of increased patrols in that area in response to neighborhood complaints about narcotics activity.
