Councilor-at-large Brian Gomes says curfew zones in New Bedford will makes high crime areas safer and quieter.  Gomes plans to ask his fellow councilors to begin work on creating an ordinance that would create the zones in the city's "hot Spots."

Gomes says the curfew zones will provide a higher quality of life for residents of some troubled areas of New Bedford.  He says the curfew would give law enforcement an additional tool in fighting crime.

The councilor will not say where the crime hot spots are because he does not want to give away the plan to trouble makers.  The full council will take up the issue when it meets on Thursday night.
