New Bedford Councillor Steven Martins Makes Online Campaign Announcement

NEW BEDFORD - Steven Martins, Ward Two City Councillor since 2008, has announced his plans for this year's municipal election.

Through his Facebook page, Martins announced that he was giving up his seat on the New Bedford City Council to run for Assessor, a six-year term.

The City's Assessor's Office is comprised of a three-member board, with current members including Kimberly Saunders, Peter Berthiaume, and Marty Treadup.

Treadup's seat on the board is eligible during this year's election. Treadup has already taken out nomination papers for re-election.

Martins' announcement leaves the Ward Two seat open. Community activists Carlos Pimentel Felix and Edwin Cartagena have taken out nomination papers for the City Council seat to represent Ward Two.
