After a foot chase with New Bedford police officers early Sunday, a man from New York was arrested and accused of breaking into several cars.   22-year-old Joshua Hartle told the cops that he is staying at a local hotel while working construction on the Wal-Mart in Dartmouth.

Police were called by a witness who said a man was breaking into cars near Union and South Second Streets.   After being spotted, the man took off on foot.   The cops arrested Hartle on Pleasant Street after a foot chase through several yards.

Police found several cars with smashed windows.   Some of the items taken were recovered after the foot chase.   Hartle is charged with six counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
