Narragansett Beer celebrated its 125th birthday last year, but not many people realize it hasn't actually been in its home state of Rhode Island in over three decades. That's scheduled to change later this year, according to owner Mark Hellendrung.

Hellendrung made the announcement in a letter to fans of the 5th largest brewery in New England Sunday, thanking them for their support.

The move has been in the works for a period of time, with plans falling through and speed bumps along the way. "But, as it often does in Rhode Island, hope prevailed. Today, it is with great pride that we announce that ‘Gansett is finally coming home," Hellendrung wrote.

The company is in the final process of moving out of their Providence offices and relocating to their future brewing location in Pawtucket.

After a period of renovations and bringing the building up to full operation, Narragansett Beer will be brewed in the Ocean State for the first time since 1983.
