NANTUCKET — Massachusetts State Police have arrested a Nantucket man on charges of "upskirting."

State Police say Trooper Kevin Bates, who is assigned to Nantucket, was approached last Thursday, July 19, by three women who reported they had witnessed a man take an "upskirt" photo of a woman on Federal Street on the island. The women had taken photos and video of the suspect. The images were shared with the Nantucket Police Department in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Later that evening, Trooper Bates witnessed the suspect waiting tables at a local restaurant. Trooper Bates and Trooper Jacob Raposo met with the suspect, a 30-year-old Nantucket man. After an investigation, which included viewing pictures taken by the suspect, the man was placed under arrest.

The man, who has not been identified by State Police, is charged with committing illegal electronic surveillance or video of a nude or partially nude person.

Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the incident, and hope to determine the scope of the suspect's alleged crimes.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after making statements that suggested that he posed a threat to his own safety.
