To be exact, there is $75 million in cash and property that is waiting to be claimed here in Ma$$achusetts.  And that is just in the new listings category.   The state treasurer's office has announced the latest tally of names added during the past six months to the unclaimed property list.   There are more than 51,000 new listings.

The treasurer is encouraging anyone who has lived in Massachusetts or done business here to check the list.  In total, the state is holding over $2.4 billion on behalf of citizens.  His new release says it is the goal to return as much of it as possible.

The unclaimed property includes forgotten savings and checking accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, even contents of old safe deposit boxes.  It is believed that one in ten people in Massachusetts has unclaimed property in their name.
