Anyone who has been paying attention -- or listened to the 'Wrecking Ball' lyrics -- knew this news was coming: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have officially called it quits.

Representatives for both stars confirmed to People today (Sept. 16) that they have split up, calling off their 16-month-long engagement in the process.

Their final public appearance together, at last month's 'Paranoia' premiere, was an exercise in awkwardness, with one source saying the couple "acted as if they were strangers" all evening, even though Cyrus was still wearing her engagement ring.

The once-inseparable pair, who met on the set of 2010 flick 'The Last Song,' have had a tumultuous relationship of late, postponing their wedding and appearing in public together less and less frequently. It looks as if this past weekend's Cyrus family Twitter unfollowing spree and subsequent Las Vegas party trip by the 'Hunger Games' hottie could have been the final straw. Or maybe it was Miley's raunchy VMAs performance, which reportedly "mortified" Liam. Or maybe it was his alleged sexting of January Jones.

Whatever the ultimate reason for the split, their rocky romance is definitely O-V-E-R. Or maybe it's only over for now? What do you think, PopCrushers? Do you think they'll give their relationship yet another chance, or do you think it's best that they've admitted what so many of us have suspected for so long?
