The first resort casino for Massachusetts is expected to open this summer. MGM Resorts International has announced that it expects to open their new casino in downtown Springfield on the 24th of August.

The $960 Million hotel and casino was originally expected to open sometime in September, but boston.com reports the project has run ahead of schedule. The massive building in the downtown area features a 250-room hotel, a 125,000 square foot casino, and several restaurants, bars and stores. The Boston website reported that hundreds of slot machines are currently being installed in the casino.

Just a few miles from the new Springfield casino, the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes have started construction on a new casino that will attemp to comepete with MGM. That facility is just over the Mass/Connecticut state line.
