It was a big day here on the Southcoast with two major elections taking place in New Bedford and Fall River.

Southcoast Today reports that Mayor Jon Mitchell has won a third consecutive term in City Hall.  Mitchell beat candidate Maria Giesta by more than 2,000 votes.

Meanwhile, in Fall River, WSAR 1480 is reporting that City Councilor Jasiel Correia II has become the Mayor Elect of the City of Fall River by just 52% of the vote, beating Mayor Sutter's 7621 votes.

Fall River saw a 34.6% voter turnout for today's election while New Bedford saw a 22.8% voter turnout.
