Massachusetts Towns With Most Opioids Deaths

Opioid deaths are clearly on the rise in Massachusetts and several Southcoast towns are among the those with the highest numbers of them.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the US Census have released the latest numbers of opioid deaths in Massachusetts and the numbers have more than doubled in the last three years.

Sadly that seems to be the case very close to home as well, with several Southcoast towns among those most affected by the state's opioid crisis.

Here are the cities and towns with the most deaths in 2015 according to the most recent reports.

1. Boston - 126 deaths

2. Worcester - 57 deaths

3. Lowell - 47 deaths

4. New Bedford - 46 deaths

5. Lynn & Brockton (tied) - 41 deaths

6. Quincy - 37 deaths

7. Springfield - 36 deaths

8. Fall River - 34 deaths

9. Lawrence - 23 deaths

10. Weymouth - 22 deaths

Both New Bedford and Fall River have nearly doubled their number of opioid deaths since 2012, other cities have nearly quadrupled their numbers.

These numbers do not include people who overdosed and were saved using Narcan.
