24/7 Metro News - A Massachusetts high school is getting rid of the term "freshmen" and changing the name to "first-year-students."

According to WWLP-TV, Easthampton High School is now using the "first-year-students" naming in an effort to be more gender-inclusive.

Officials say the idea was adopted based on recommendations from a student group.

Students were notified of the policy change during an assembly last week but a statement was also issued that said they may use the word "freshmen" if they'd prefer.
