Massachusetts’ Gas And Cigarette Taxes Increase
It happens Wednesday. People who buy gasoline and cigarettes here in Massachusetts will pay more. The state's gas tax jumps 3 cents a gallon, from 21 to 24 cents per gallon.
But, it's smokers who will really feel the brunt of the tax increase. The excise tax on a pack of cigarettes will jump from $2.51 to $3.61.
The new law also imposes a 6.25 percent sales tax on computer software services.
