Mass. School Reads Muslim Prayer on 9/11, Not Pledge of Allegiance

A high school in Massachusetts is having to do some explaining after it was discovered that instead of the Pledge of Allegiance, they read a Muslim poem.

According to WCVB, Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord, MA elected to read a poem written by Mohja Kahf entitled “My Grandmother Washes her Feet in the Sink of the Bathroom at Sears.” Many parents were upset because they thought that what was read over the loudspeaker was a Muslim poem. The Principal says that’s not the case.

The poem was written to reflect both American and Syrian influences on the poet, who moved to the USA from Syria in 1971.The principal said that he received many calls from angry parents, but assures them it was not a Muslim prayer.

In regards to the Pledge of Allegiance, the school says that the person who was supposed to read the pledge was not available, and it was just an over site they did not foresee. They say the pledge is read everyday, and it won’t happen again.
