NEW BEDFORD - No loaves to speak of, but plenty of fish was delivered to the Salvation Army in New Bedford Thursday by the Massachusetts Environmental Police.

Earlier Thursday, Mass. Environmental Police Officers patrolling the Cape Cod Canal witnessed recreational fisherman loading their vehicles with striped bass, also stashing the fish in coolers hidden among rocks and bushes, as well as filleting fish. Recreational limits allow one striped bass per fisherman per day. It's also illegal to fillet striped bass while fishing.

Five fishermen were issued criminal summonses and civil citations.

Environmental Police seized a total of 332 pounds of striped bass, and donated the haul to the New Bedford Salvation Army.
