Martha’s Vineyard Teen Killed in Crash
CHILMARK - A Martha's Vineyard teen is dead following a single-vehicle crash on the island.
State Police responded to a section of Middle Road in Chilmark before 8 a.m. Friday to a report of a serious crash. Upon arrival, troopers found a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban that had been traveling on Middle Road lost control and exited the roadway.
Preliminary investigation indicates that while the driver was negotiating a curve, the vehicle traveled to the left side of the road and then back to the right before hitting a tree and coming to rest at the bottom of an embankment.
The driver, Jake Baird, 17, of Oak Bluffs, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the vehicle were transported to Martha's Vineyard Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
