A man with a machete was tasered by officers in Fall River Thursday night after he threatened a woman with the knife.

The Fall River Herald says officers were called to Norfolk Street around 7:45 p.m. after reports of a man with a meat cleaver chasing a woman down the road. The woman had taken shelter in Acores Bakery when police arrived.

There was a short standoff with police when the man refused to put down the machete he was holding after being ordered to. He ended up being Tasered and moments later was handcuffed and in a rescue truck.

The Herald reports that it is standard procedure for people subjected to the electric shock of a Taser to be given a medical evaluation.

No other details about the incident were immediately available.
