Dighton Police are investigating after a man tried to lure a boy into his vehicle.

Sgt. David McGuirk tells WBSM News the incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday when a high-school aged male was approached by a large black SUV as he was waiting at the bus stop on Tremont St.

The driver of the SUV, described as a white man in his 40's or 50's, then asked the teen to "help him find his puppy".

The boy then ran back to his home and notified his parents who in turn, contacted the police.

The driver took off.

McGuirk says this incident highlights why it's so important for parents to make their kids aware of these type of dangers.

"They're not going to get freaked out by it but we bring up our kids to be aware of situations like this," said McGuirk adding the boy even mentioned hearing this information several times, "he says 'mom and dad told me things and we learned this things in school' and he did what he was taught to do."

This was also a unique case as the high school male doesn't fit the profile of your average kidnapping victim.

"It's typically much younger younger kids, middle school and under, or a female," said McGuirk "this is a male student probably 6-foot tall, probably 180 pounds, good sized kid."

Anyone with information is asked to call Dighton Police at 508-669-6711.
