Charges have been filed against a Princeton man following an early morning crash on Friday.

Rochester Police say the accident occurred on Mattapoisett Rd. around 12:16 a.m. when the driver, identified as 22-year-old Jack P. Lilburn, lost control of his SUV, crossed the center line, and went off the left side of the road.

Lilburn then veered back onto the roadway and struck a speed limit sign before rolling the vehicle.

The SUV ended up on its wheels on the right side of the roadway.

Police say Lilburn then got out of the SUV and grabbed the front bumper which had come off during the crash, placed it in the back seat and drove from the scene towards Mattapoisett with two flat tires and all the airbags deployed.

Mattapoisett Police were notified and began a search for the vehicle with Rochester Police.

Officers followed road surface damage that was caused by the flat tires which led them to Summer St. in Mattapoisett where they found the heavily damaged SUV.

Police say Lilburn told officers that he had been at a New Bedford bar and was trying to get back to UMass Dartmouth.

He said he did not remember how the crash happened.

Lilburn was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stay in marked lanes and malicious destruction of property over $250 for the damage caused to the road surface.

In addition Rochester Police say they will be seeking charges against Lilburn for leaving the scene of an accident and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Lilburn was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Wareham District Court.
