A Boston man is arrested after New Bedford police recognize his face from surveillance footage of a crime.

Detective Jonathan Lagoa was patrolling downtown Saturday afternoon when he saw a man get into a van. Detective Lagoa recognized the man from a picture sent in a department email earlier that day regarding a robbery with persons of interest depicted.

Detective Lagoa stopped the van and identified the man as 24-year-old Joshua Herivaux. Herivaux had provided police with a false name. A search of his backpack revealed a loaded .45 caliber handgun, with hollowpoint ammunition. Herivaux was arrested and faces charges of unlawfully carrying a firearm, unlawfully carrying a firearm with an obliterated serial number and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm.

The investigation into the robbery Herivaux is a suspect in is ongoing.

Herivaux is being arraigned Monday in New Bedford District Court.
