A Rhode Island man is facing charges after he allegedly trespassed onto Otis Air National Guard Base.

Massachusetts State Police say that at around 1:40 a.m. Monday they were contacted by Air Force security reporting that a vehicle with Rhode Island registration had failed to stop at the Bourne gate.

The vehicle sped off and drove down Estey Rd. where it crashed into a pole.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Harold Lamotte of Charlestown, R.I., was taken into custody by State Police and base security.

Lamotte was taken to the State Police Barracks in Bourne where he allegedly became combative and tried to escape custody during the booking process.

He is being charged with Failure to stop; Negligent operation of a motor vehicle; Marked lanes violation; Failure to stop for Police Officer; Speeding; Resisting arrest; Assault and Battery on a Police Officer; Trespassing; and Attempt to escape from jail.

State Police say the motive for his actions remain under under investigation and, while the incident is being reviewed further, at this time there is no information to indicate that Lamotte is a threat to national security or has any nexus to terrorism.
