How would you feel if your child was suddenly not welcome at their school because of who they are?

If you ask the Diocese of Providence the policy on transgender kids attending Catholic schools they will tell you it’s a school-by-school policy.

According to the Tiverton-Little Compton Patch, Mount Saint Charles in Woonsocket RI, a private Catholic school, is not required to follow federal discrimination laws. Why? Because these schools are funded privately and do not receive money from the government.

The actual parent student handbook states “Mount Saint Charles Academy is unable to make accommodations for transgender students.”

GoLocalProv posted the schools policy earlier this week and there are several alumni of the school who are speaking out against this policy and have created a petition at change.org. So far, they have more than 600 signatures with many saying they are upset at the school. Jamie Wronka of Holliston, Ma tells the Patch “Bigotry and hatred should be our past, not our future” and that “Transgender children are at greater risk for depression, homelessness, abuse and suicide; schools should be a place of support, not hate.” Then, there are others who feel strongly the school is doing the right thing, that they appreciate them not giving in to political correctness.

We’d like to know what your opinion is on this…
