It's that time of year again! We are preparing everyone to go back to school the next couple of weeks. Whether you're the student, the parent, or the teacher, you could use a little advice to get you through the next 40 weeks (and beyond).

Erin McHugh would like to invite you to participate in her collection of "teacher quotes" to amuse and guide you. McHugh is a local author from South Dartmouth who has written "Like My Mother Always Said" and "Like My Father Always Said." Now she's opening the lines to anyone with a few words of wisdom from some of life's other great mentors. Below is the message she would like everyone to read:

"I'm hoping you'll help me put together another fun, funny, poignant collection of quips, quotes and anecdotes -- this time, from your favorite teacher. (And if you are a teacher -- your favorite things you say to your own students!)

Here are just a few examples...

“Swing the pendulum,” Coach X used to say to me. What he meant was, whatever someone throws at you, push right back. -- Karen

As an adult, I have been a student of printmaking for the last few years, and the best advice I ever heard was from a teacher who was encouraging me to take more risks and not try to make everything a masterpiece. She’d remind me, “It’s just a piece of paper.” -- Mr. D. to Sandy

"If you want someone to say it's beautiful, take it home and show it to your mother." --Mr. S, art teacher, to Eric

Ms. T. said, ”Read, always read. Let a book be a friend who is always true, a love who is always faithful, and a dream that you'll always remember.”-- William

“Slow down – you’ll have more time.” -- Tennis teacher Mr. V. to Mal

You get the picture! It can be a teacher from school, a coach, a mentor -- anyone who you feel has "schooled" you. I'd love for you to be a part of this book, so please send in your "teacherisms" -- and feel free to pass this email along to all your friends. Don't you want to see you and your second-grade teacher immortalized on page 28?!

Thanks so much -- and looking forward to your remembrances soon!

Best,

Erin"

She would also like to remind you that if you do decide to pass on a quote or two, please provide the name (or initials) of each teacher / mentor / coach so she can attribute to the quote or short anecdote. If you'd like to send to Erin directly, here is her email address: emchughnyc@aol.com

HAVE FUN!
