A 24 year old New Bedford man has pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the January 2013 death of nine month old Ariel Eluziario.

Ethen Harrison was sentenced to life in prison Thursday with the possibility of parole after 15 years. The sentence was handed down by Fall River Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis.

Prosecutors said Harrison was babysitting the child on January 24th, 2013. He later admitted to police he became angry after the child would not stop crying. Harrison admitted to hitting and shaking the baby.

An autopsy revealed Ariel was bleeding between the brain and the skull and suffered swelling of the brain. She was pronounced dead at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

In a statement, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said "I'm happy the defendant has been held accountable and will serve a life sentence for his callous and brutal actions."
