Kyrie Irving put all the rumors to rest, saying he wants to stay in Boston after this season.

Thursday night, the Celtics held their annual fan appreciation night and Kyrie Irving took that opportunity to drop a bombshell. Throughout the summer, there had been rumors that Irving had plans to link up with Jimmy Butler after this season. Everything had been hinting that they were hoping to land in New York. Obviously, that wasn't music to the ears of many Celtics fans.

On Thursday, Irving set things straight, announcing to the fans at the Garden, "If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here next year."

That announcement is huge, for a number of different reasons. First of all, obviously when a player the caliber of Kyrie Irving says they want to play for your organization, that's a big deal. Beyond that, it's huge for the continued success of the Boston Celtics moving forward. You now have someone who's going to lead your team in the present. You have a true MVP and international talent as the face of your franchise.

If Kyrie re-signs, it's also much bigger than just the present. Don't forget, Uncle Drew is only 26 years old. He's about to enter the pique of his career and help develop Celtics young budding stars like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Let's also not forget to mention that the Boston Celtics historically haven't had the best luck when it comes to signing free agents. With Kyrie on the roster, there is no doubt there will always be interested in playing with him in Boston.

Now, this all could just be lip service and Kyrie means he'll be back as long as the Celtics "back up the Brinks truck," like Isaiah Thomas famously said. Either way he's saying all the right things, and it definitely makes my little green heart very happy.
