Early detection is the best weapon against breast cancer. Here some tips courtesy of the Susan G. Komen organization, who continue to raise money for research and fight for the cure.

  1. Know your risk factor: Do you have a family history? If so, you want to discuss it with your primary care physician and be sure to screen regularly
  2. Get mammograms annually after the age of 40 or if you are at higher risk.
  3. Know your breasts! If you see or feel a change in shape, a lump or discoloration, be sure to consult your doctor immediately.
  4. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight can increase your risk.
