If you knit or crochet, put your hobby to good use this winter for babies born in February.

Volunteers are needed to knit red hats for babies born in February at participating hospitals.

The campaign is designed to empower moms to live heart healthy lives and encourage their children to do the same while also raising awareness for Congenital Heart Defects.

Anyone interested in knitting hats are asked to use red, cotton or acrylic yarn that is of medium to heavy weight and is machine washable. You are also asked to contact the local American Heart Association.

Michelle Karn and Amanda Komorek are handling donations out of the Providence office and Allison Slattery is handling them for the Boston area out of Waltham.

Local hospitals that are accepting donations according to the American Heart Association website are St Luke's Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital in Providence.

I know I'll be knitting up some read hats this winter!
