John Mayer and Katy Perry broke up despite being doting upon one another in public (even when dressed like this), so it came as a bit of a surprise when the news hit.

But the reasoning behind the breakup isn't too shocking. New sources say it was mostly due to scheduling conflicts between the two pop stars. Despite, you know, them being able to afford private jets to take them to visit one another whenever they feel like it. (Just saying.)

Mayer's return to touring played the biggest part in the end of the on-off relationship.

"John still very much loves her and has feelings for her," a source told E! Online. "It was just going to be too much with what was on his plate."

Previous reports insinuated that the couple just weren't a good match and were bickering constantly leading up to the split -- but don't expect him to confirm or deny that publicly.

“It was a very private relationship going in, it was a private relationship during and it’s a private relationship still,” Mayer told Ellen DeGeneres. “Coupling is a tricky thing.”

Perhaps the source was right when they said he still loves her -- because usually when he's done with a woman, he has no issues running that mouth of his about her. (And now he's no longer on vocal rest, either, which may have been the only thing stopping him from doing it before.)
