The Red Sox finally fired John Farrell this morning. Now that the Farrell era has come to the close, we are asking who the next skipper should be for the Red Sox. My personal favorite would be Jason Varitek. Can you imagine how fun it would be to run into the Captain at Harbor Days in Mattapoisett and offer your unsolicited advice to how he should handle his bullpen? Aside from that obvious advantage, Tek was always regarded as a "player/manager" type during his playing days. He had an uncanny ability to help his pitchers navigate through tough innings by calling for just the right pitches at just the right time. He's a smart baseball player and leader. I think he'd be perfect for the job.
