As the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination approaches this week, Americans are reflecting on the Massachusetts native's life. When John F Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier in Newport, Rhode Island in September on 1953, their wedding cake was baked by a Fall River bakery. According to the Fall River Herald, the head baker at the former Plourdes Bakery prepared the cake, then the owner of Plourdes Bakery delivered it to Hammersmith Farm in Newport. The future president first found out about Plourde's Bakery while campaigning for the 1952 Senate race. One of his campaign promises to the bakery was that Plourde's would bake his wedding cake. He kept his word...and even invited the Plourdes as guests to the wedding.
