UPDATE (7:12 p.m.): Store management confirms that the store re-opened at 6:45 p.m. Monday evening, but declined to offer any other comment.

The JC Penney store at the North Dartmouth Mall was evacuated this afternoon.

Dartmouth Police say that around 5:10 p.m., the call came in of a report of a light odor and a haze inside the store. The store was evacuated as a precaution while the Dartmouth Fire Department, which is still on the scene, investigated for any signs of a hazard.

Police say they expect the store to re-open to customers shortly.
