During Jason Varitek's time with the Boston Red Sox, baseball pundits agreed that he'd make a great manager someday.  That day could finally be here.

According to CSN, industry sources confirm Varitek recently interviewed with the Seattle Mariners for their managerial opening. Jerry Dipoto, the new Seattle GM, recently fired the Mariners manager and is seeking a replacement.

Before accepting the job in Seattle, Dipoto spent August and September as a consultant with the Red Sox, and spent most of his time with the Red Sox farm system.  Jason Varitek has spent the last few seasons as a special assistant to Red Sox management working with the scout team and some of the younger catchers.

The former Red Sox captain began his baseball career in Seattle before being traded to the Red Sox.  He's one of several candidates vying to be the Mariners next skipper.

Jason has a wife and several young children.  His wife, Catherine Varitek is a native of the Southcoast and is an avid listener to the Fun Morning Show.  In fact, the Variteks stopped by Fun 107 on Christmas Eve to drop off muffins.  While we love Tek, part of us hopes he doesn't get the Seattle job.  We loved the muffins (and the visit) so much!
