It's a question that often comes up after a woman finds out that she's expecting, and usually people would jump right to "no", but according to a new article in the Wall Street Journal women might get a different answer.

According to Emily Oster, women need to take back their pregnancies. In other words, don't be afraid to have a glass of wine every now and then, and also don't be afraid to have coffee.

Emily was pregnant a few years ago, and while her doctors couldn't give her an actual number as to how much is too much, she decided to do some research. While her doctors told her it was "probably fine" to have a glass of wine, she wanted to know for sure. She found a study done in Australia that took expecting mothers and tested them after drinking.

One of the biggest concerns when it comes to drinking wine when your pregnant is your baby's IQ. This study concluded that the occasional drink could be helpful:

Children of women who had an occasional drink during early pregnancy scored an average of three points higher then children of women who abstained.

The data that she also came across also couldn't prove that drinking a glass of wine a day or so had any affect on the babies development.

It's not the only taboo when it comes to pregnancy. Coffee, hair dye and exercise is often frowned upon, but she found that you can do all of this in moderation.
