NEW BEDFORD - A significant fire Wednesday night displaces two New Bedford residents.

WLNE-TV reports crews responded to the fire at a Myrtle Street home just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters had the body of the fire under control within an hour, and stayed on scene several hours to put out any hot spots.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents.

The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal was on scene, in addition to a K-9 police unit.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A fire at a nearby home on Myrtle Street earlier this month had been deemed suspicious by the State Fire Marshal's office.
