For the holidays or anytime during the upcoming winter season, The Trapp Family Lodge gives you a taste of Austria in Vermont.  Of couse, the von Trapp family was highlighted in the classic musical and film "The Sound of Music."

The Trapp Family Lodge is located in Stowe, Vermont, which is about a four-hour drive from the Southcoast area.  It's still owned by descendants of Maria and Baron Georg von Trapp.  They settled in Vermont after fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria.

In addition to overnight lodging, the lodge offers dining, the Austria tea and Tap Room, the von Trapp Brewery and wine cellar.  The year-round resort also has tours, carriage rides, wine tasting events, and of course some of the best skiing on New England.  the resort's slogan is "A little bit of Austria, a lot of Vermont."

For the holiday season, the lodge is decorated with thousands of lights and dozens of Christmas trees.
