This season, Fun 107 teamed up with the United Way of Greater New Bedford to help bring a bit of light to Southcoast families who've had a trying year this year.

The YWCA works to improve the lives of women, girls and people of color across the country. Our local YWCA branch nominated one of their families who despite all of her hard work, just can't seem to get ahead.

... is a hard working single mom who truly tries her best to provide what she can for her children. She is a hard worker but can never seem to get ahead. She and her three children live in housing but do not have any living room furniture. the children do not have adequate dressers or beds and the little furniture they do have is old and falling apart; they have mattresses on the floor, no bed frames, etc.

This has been a stressor for mom for some time now. in addition, acquiring Christmas gifts for her children will be difficult due to limited finances. She is a hard working mom who never asks for help and doesn't' take advantage of assistance. I know she'd be beyond grateful; she's not accustomed to receiving gifts, but rather works for them.

The family's largest need is for new bedroom items for the three children, including new bedding, new pillows and other items typical for young children's rooms and after hearing this, Cardi's Furniture & Mattress was sure to make that a reality for the family and donated a $2,000 gift card to the store.

If you'd like to help the family with additional needs, they have a son age 5, who likes cars and Legos; an 8 year old son who likes dogs, video games and Minecraft, and an 11 year old daughter who likes fashion and art supplies.

Drop-offs are being accepted at the Fun107 Studios at 22 Sconticut Neck Road, Fairhaven, MA.  Checks can be made out to the United Way of Greater New Bedford with "YWCA Family" in the memo.
