It's the time of year high school seniors start hearing back from colleges they've applied to attend in the fall. It's also time younger students can start planning their own futures.

One way students can start planning is by attending a college fair, like the one hosted by New Bedford High School's College and Career Readiness Center .

The fair included dozens of representatives from area colleges and universities, technical schools, and the armed forces.

The center helps prepare students for life after graduation by providing assistance with college and scholarship applications, financial aid workshops, and job placement.

Another unique opportunity it provides is giving freshmen students the chance to check out a college campus.

Coordinator Lynne Laberge says taking freshmen students to visit UMass Dartmouth is a key to sparking an interest in the path to higher education.

"We head out to the campus and the students really love it. Most of them have never visited a college campus before, so it's a great opportunity for them to to see the campus and talk to students on campus" said Laberge.

The College and Career Readiness Center is in it's third year and says the student participation is growing each year.
