An armed man entered the Portsmouth, R.I. High School Jan. 30 and the quick action of one of the teachers is being called "heroic."Risha Pellegrino is credited with preventing the intruder from breaking into the gymnasium full of students. In the process, the 27-year-old teacher was punched and kicked by the former Portsmouth High student.

According to projo.com, 22-year-old Marcus Schlip had a large military knife in his backpack as he tried to enter the gym. When Pellegrino tried blocking the door, she was allegedly punched and kicked by Schlip. Another teacher directed the man to the main office, where he was arrested. No students were harmed, and the teacher was treated at a local hospital.

Former student Schlip has been charged with assault, possession of a knife during a crime and disturbance. There is no indication why he tried to enter went to the school and tried to enter the gym.
