"I do believe it will become a new fashion icon around the world," said Samsung Mobile head JK Shin when he introduced the Samsung Galaxy Gear today.   You can place a call with it, send text messages, browse the web and more.

Samsung says the Gear can act as en extension to a smartphone by discretely alerting users to incoming messages and calls on its small screen.  users can even make calls without pulling out their smartphone.

the watch is only compatible with Samsung phones and tablets and will come in several colors.   It will also work with popular social media and fitness apps such as Twitter and RunKeeper.    The Galaxy Gear is the first of what promises to be a tidal wave of smartwatches., and will be available worldwide on September 25th, starting at $299.
