Let's make Friday the 13th a lucky day for all those families here on the Southcoast who just don't have enough to eat.  FUN 107 is teaming up with the United Way of Greater New Bedford Hunger Commission to stuff their truck with as much food as we possibly can.  We'll be camped-out all day on Friday in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Route 6 in Fairhaven.

The Hunger Commission is looking for non-perishable food items.  They especially need cereal, canned meats, mac and cheese, pasta, rice, tuna and peanut butter.

New Bedford has the 6th highest percentage of kids under 18 who are poor here in Massachusetts, with over 8,000 living at the poverty level.   The local food pantries and kitchens simply do not have enough food to meet the growing demands.

Last year the United Way of GNB Hunger Commission delivered 750,000 pounds of food to local programs, at no cost to them.   Those 30 area programs all report an increase in the number of families who need help.

So please stop by the Stop & Shop in Fairhaven on Friday with one or more of those grocery items I've mentioned.   Most of us are blessed with enough to eat.  Let's think of those who are not so fortunate.
