It's an area tradition on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  We ask your help in collecting canned and non-perishable food items for needy families and area food banks.   We begin at 10 a.m. at the Brownell Avenue entrance to New Bedford's Buttonwood Park.   We line up all the donated food along the parkway until we reach the other side, which is the Rockdale Ave entrance.  In the past couple of years you have been very generous and we have doubled-back across the park, nearly reaching the Brownell entrance.

It's spectacular to see how much food it takes to accomplish cans across the park.  All off the donated food is given to the Red Cross and is used right here by food pantries in our area.  And although the number of cans seems to increase each year, the need for food grows even more.

It's a challenege for the Red Cross to keep up with the demand.   When you visit the grocery store this week, add a couple of non-perishable items to your list if you can, and then drop by Buttonwood Park on Saturday between 10 and 2.  The food makes a huge difference in the lives of so many of our neighbors, and it is greatly appreciated.
